Roger ZaneDescription: "What's that smell?" In an age where folks didn't bathe all that much, people would notice that Roger Zane doesn't bathe all that much. A grizzled mountain man and prospector, he wears clothes that have miraculously avoided falling apart after years of use. He may have other clothes, but no one has seen him wearing them. Clichés: Mountain Man (4), Prospector (4), "Seen Strange Sights" (3), Well Prepared Guy (1). Hook: Hermit - Doesn't talk much, doesn't get believed much when he does, bathes infrequently even by contemporary standards, insists on taking his pet squirrel Rex with him everywhere he goes. Languages: English, Native American Languages (use Mountain Man). Equipment: Mining equipment (pick axe, gold pan, etc.), a dirty iron pot and spoon, pack with all kinds of weird stuff in it, grubby clothes, rifle, hunting knife, canned beans, pet squirrel Rex.
Mountain Man: Huntin', fishin', trappin', livin' off the land, gettin' lost, endin' up where he wants to go anyway, gettin' along with hermits and Native Americans, cookin' beans. (Advanced once) Prospector: Knowing more about rocks than a Dwarf, digging, panning, haggling, spotting bright shiny objects, wielding a pickaxe in combat, defending a claim with improvised weapons (like broken bottles). "Seen Strange Sights": Folk knowledge of the occult (not necessarily accurate), unflappable, fun at parties. Well Prepared Guy: Collects odd and seemingly useless knick-knacks that turn out to be unexpectedly useful later on.
